Learn more about Lewis and Clark
Make a model of Pike's Peak from salt dough. Include a card with information telling how tall Pike's Peak is. ( The elevation is 14,110.)
Have students make a journal similar to the one Meriwether Lewis and William Clark kept careful field notes in during their 6,000 mile journey. They saw 178 kinds of plants and 122 animals that were previously unknown to the people in the rest of the United States. Have students choose one of these animals and make a detailed drawing of it. Some suggestions to choose are:
buffalo | coyotes | jackrabbits | prairie dog |
wild turkeys | sage hens | rattlesnakes | lizards |
antelope | owls | wolves |
