Part 2 Art Work

Fill in the blanks. Use the words below to help you.

  1. The Navajo made paintings from sand to help cure the sick.
  2. The Algonquin Indians made dream catchers to help their children have good dreams.
  3. The Seminole women wore many necklaces. She received a new one each birthday until she turned 40.
  4. The Northwest Coastal Indians built tall totem poles and placed them in front of their homes.
  5. The Pueblo Indians made dolls of their gods called Kachinas and gave them to the children to play with so they would not be afraid of the gods during ceremonies.
  6. The Inuit made carvings from whale bones.
  7. The Plains Indians made just about everything from buffalo hides.
  8. The Eastern Woodland Indians beaded medicine bags and filled them with herbs.
  9. The Northeast Indians made containers from birchbark.
  10. The Plains Indians were the only group to wear war bonnets. The chief wore this when he went into battle.
  11. Rattles were musical instruments used by many Native American groups. The Southwest Indians made theirs from turtle shells.
  12. Drums were another musical instrument. They were usually made from hollow logs. Some were filled with water to make different tones.
  13. The Iroquois made masks from corn husks.

Part 5 Food

Name the group.

  1. The Apache raided other tribes for food.
  2. The Inuit ate otters, walruses, seals, and caribou.
  3. The Northwest Coastal Tribes ate salmon, whales, bear, caribou, deer, elk, and moose as well as roots and berries gathered from the forests.
  4. The Pueblo were desert farmers. They grew a lot of corn.
  5. The Plains Indians ate buffalo.
  6. The Iroquois ate beans, squash, and corn which they named The Three Sisters. They also hunted deer, bears, caribou, elk, moose, wild duck, geese, partridge, beavers, and other game.
  7. The Great Lake Tribes were hunters and farmers. Much of their diet was wild rice.
