Ancient Egypt Seti I (Menmaatre)
1394 - 1279

Seti I ruled during the 19th Dynasty. He was a good military leader. Seti took 60,000 soldiers into Asia. He took back several cities in the Syrian territory. He also took Palestine and Damascus. Seti allied with the Hittites against the Kadesh.

Seti built his mortuary at Abydos. Seti had a 300 foot deep tunnel cut into the cliffs. It is the largest tomb in the Valley of the Kings. Over 700 Shabti, stone or wooden figures, were buried along with Seti. They were to protect him in his afterlife.
