Ancient Egypt Senefru

Seneferu's Bent Pyramid

Ancient Egypt Senefru
2575 - 2551

Senefru reigned during the 4th Dynasty. He was an active military leader. Senefru fought against the Nubians and the Libyans. These battles were recorded on the Palermo Stone.

Senefru traded along the Mediterranean. He constructed his mortuary complex at Dashur, including the Maidum Pyramid, the Bent Pyramid, and the Red Pyramid. To obtain the lumber he needed, Senefru sent forty ships to Lebanon. He built a monument to honor the event.

The bent pyramid is thought to be an architectural link between the Step Pyramid and the true pyramids. During the 12th Dynasty many pharaohs built their mortuaries next to Senefru's pyramid.
