School B encourages teachers to build all types of hallway displays to show off student work. Tables are set up in the hallway to display dioramas, decorated pumpkins at Halloween, and so on. Competitions are held to see which classroom can decorate their doors the best. One fall, teachers were asked to decorate their doors based on their favorite college football team. Two creative teachers decided this was a great opportunity to have a little fun with the 'guy' teacher in their grade level that was a HUGE football fan. The teachers stayed late and spent a lot of time creating a fantastic door display for the 'guy' teacher's favorite team's biggest rivalry. We all had a good laugh when he arrived at school the next morning and saw his door.
Once a year, the entire school is decorated for the Art Walk. Every classroom picks a project for the students to complete. These are all displayed up and down the hallways on walls and tables. Parents are encouraged to come see what their students are doing. The results are fantastic.
Below are photos from the decorated Halloween pumpkins and a few of the Native American villages created by fifth graders.
