Most dog owners know that humans age slower than dogs. The general rule is that one year in your dog's life is equal to seven years in your life. However, the math isn't quite that simple. Dogs age quickly in their early years, and then their rate of aging slows. Additionally, different breeds and the size of your dog affect their aging process. Smaller dogs age more slowly than larger dogs. Look at this chart for a 5-year-old dog, 10-year-old dog, and 15-year-old dog to see the comparisons.
Age of Dog | Small Dogs 20 Pounds or Less |
Medium Dogs 21-50 Pounds |
Large Dogs More than 50 Pounds |
---|---|---|---|
5 | 36 | 36 | 36 |
10 | 56 | 60 | 66 |
15 | 76 | 83 | 93 |
