Baklava is a wonderful Greek desert. Grease a 14 by 9 inch baking dish. Place eight sheets of Filo dough in the dish. Brush the dough with butter.
Chop one cup of walnuts and one cup of almonds. Mix two cups of sugar with the nuts. Add one teaspoon of cinnamon. Pour half of the sugar nut mixture over the dough. Add eight more layers of Filo dough. Pour the other half of the sugar nut mixture over the dough. Add another eight layers of Filo dough. Brush with butter. Cut through all the layers of dough in diamond shapes.
Bake the baklava at 350° for 30 minutes. Turn the oven down to 325 and bake for another 25 minutes.
Pour two cups of sugar into a small saucepan. Add one cup of milk to the sugar. Add one tablespoon of maple syrup. Heat this mixture until it comes to a rapid boil. Pour the syrup mixture over the top of the baked baklava. Slice the baklava while it is still hot.
