The Aurelian Wall was built around Rome beginning in 271 AD. It was completed under Probus in 280 AD. The walls are more than 12 miles long and 60 feet tall. The wall was built of brick-faced concrete. Every fifteen yards a tower was built. In 306-312 AD, Emperor Maxentius doubled the height of the wall.
