It makes a beautiful mini-unit to teach during the Christmas season.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Geneva; color: #bf0404; font-size: 24pt;\"><strong>The Gift of the Magi Writing Project<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Geneva;\">Have students select one famous couple. The couple may be nonfictional historical couples or fictional ones from literature.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Geneva;\">Printables are provided for the following couples:<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Geneva;\">The Little Mermaid and the Prince<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Geneva;\">Romeo and Juliet<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Geneva;\">Beauty and the Beast<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Geneva;\">Mark Anthony and Cleopatra<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Geneva;\">Lancelot and Guinevere<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Geneva;\">John Smith and Pocahontas<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Geneva;\">Robin Hood and Maid Marian<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Geneva;\">Napoleon and Josephine<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Geneva;\">John and Abigail Adams<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Geneva;\">Helen of Troy and Paris<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Geneva;\">If you randomly assign the couples, students might need to do a little research to learn enough to complete the project.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Geneva;\">Students will rewrite the story of <em>The Gift of the Magi<\/em> with the famous couple as the two main characters. Be sure students include the following elements in the revised story:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Geneva;\">What is the setting of the story based on the new characters?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Geneva;\">From whose perspective is the story going to be told?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Geneva;\">What would be the most prized possession of each character?
