Earth Day is a great time to teach students how to write a persuasive essay. So many things in our world need our care. Have students select one of these causes. Students then write an essay to convince other to save the earth. Suggested writing topics include the following:

• recycling
• saving water
• cleaning up natural habitats
• the danger of oil spills
• conserving oil and other natural resources
• the harmful effects of disposable diapers
• protecting endangered species
